It’s no secret that our country’s economic issues have impacted nearly everyone. Senior citizens in particular have felt the pinch with declines in their home values, retirement savings and stock portfolios and the rising costs of rents, utilities and transportation.
The new Discovery Center provides one central location in Seattle where active seniors can go to learn about their affordable independent living options and choose from over 4,000 apartments in SHAG’s 27 affordable rental apartment communities for active seniors, including 5 in several of Seattle’s urban village centers.
All of SHAG’s affordable rental apartment communities offer a range of affordable rents that can assist almost every senior reduce their monthly housing and related expenditures. Most utilities are included in the rents, and some communities provide free or very low cost transportation options. Typical amenities include a media center with a home theatre system and free internet access, a fitness center with low impact exercise equipment, and weekly planned activities and events. Some communities even have a rooftop mini-golf course and pea-patch planter boxes for outdoor recreation and enjoyment.
The Discovery Center allows seniors to choose a community based on what location, what type of apartment unit, and what kind of amenities are most appealing to them. Since some age and income restrictions apply, if for any reason a particular senior is not eligible or if one of SHAG’s affordable apartment communities is not suitable, SHAG will make every effort to help them find another suitable housing arrangement.
SHAG’s Discovery Center provides a one-stop learning experience with video presentations, details on floor plans, unit layouts, rents, income qualifications and the various amenities offered at each of SHAG’s 27 affordable apartment communities.
